Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to the official re-opening of the aZambezi River Lodge following major refurbishment.
Being the only hotel in Victoria Falls with a river frontage the hotel has maximised this advantage and expanded the old Amalonga restaurant to include a sweeping deck that has fantastic views of the Zambezi River. In the pipeline are a cocktail bar and an la carte restaurant (also river facing!)
Gone are the tired room interiors and outdated bathrooms. The new look a Zambezi rooms are fashionably contemporary but it hasn’t lost sight of its Zimbabwe heritage. Beautiful Zimbabwe teak cupboards adorn the rooms and all the interesting accessories like the carved picture frames and beaded fish in the bathroom have been made by disadvantaged Zimbabwe communities.
Rooms have all the creature comforts one would expect such as plasma TV’s with satellite channels, mini bars and a tea making station.
The gardens have been given a major revamp. The old parking lot between the accommodation blocks has been replaced with a new garden sanctuary for guests to enjoy.
The hotel is close enough to Vic Falls to make all the activities in the area accessible but if you just fancy doing your own thing and strolling around the quaint town centre, then the hotel offers a complimentary hourly shuttle bus.
