Kariba Houseboat package

This package includes:
  • All meals
  • Full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks)
  • Limited house wines, local beers, soft drinks and water * (Clients will be requested to complete a drinks list)
  • All activities including game viewing by boat, fishing, bird-watching
  • LIMITED FUEL PER DAY: 3 hours cruising time, 8 hours generator time and a caddy tank for the tender boat

Lake Kariba is a water wilderness close to the lively tourist town of Victoria Falls. The Lady Jacqueline is based in the small town of Binga on the southern side of the lake making it easy to include into a self drive Zimbabwe safari itinerary. This houseboat has two master suites so its perfect for two families to travel together and enjoy this amazing destination.

 

Boat facilities at a glance:

  • Spacious upper deck with bar area, sunbathing deck and dining area
  • The saloon is fully air conditioned.  It has a DVD home theatre, colour TV, video and a CD player.  A selection of natural history books, novels, videos, CDs, DVDs, board games, cards etc. are available
  • Jacuzzi
  • Crew - Lady J has three crew being a captain, chef and deckhand. The crew have their own crew quarters with ablution block.

  • 1 Bunk Cabin with Twin bunk beds Pullman style (2 Beds)
  • 1 Bunk Cabin with 2 sets of Bunk Beds Pullman style (4 beds)
  • A separate bathroom  with a shower, toilet and hand basin
  • Limited mattresses and mosquito nets for those who wish to sleep on the top deck. 
Tender boats:
  • The houseboat charter includes an 18 ft tender with 90hp Yamaha engine for game viewing, fishing and sunset cruises which can carry up tp 10 passengers.
  • An additional tender - 18 ft speed boat with 90 hp Yamaha & awning - can be arranged at an extra cost on request.
  • The boat is Captain Driven Only. Your own boat may be towed behind "Lady Jacqueline" - entirely at your own risk provided a maximum of two tender boats are towed at any one time.

 

 

How to make a booking
  • Upon your confirmation that you would like to proceed with a booking your Maplanga consultant will send you a booking form to confirm your holiday.
  • We will require the full names of the people travelling as the names appear in the passport in order to book flights. You can either send us passport copies or send us the names by email.
  • Please note name changes cannot be made after the tickets have been issued.
  • Once a booking is made by you and the travel details confirmed to us we will send you an invoice with our full details indicated.
  • The advertised package is based on flights with restrictive rules. The airlines require payment for flights within 24 hours of making the booking and we will require a deposit to cover the payment. Once flights are paid they are non refundable. If you prefer more flexibility a higher class of flight must be used.
  • If a deposit is not received within the stipulated period the flights will cancel. We would then have to rebook the flights and this may result in the costed class being no longer available which would affect the cost of the package.
  • Final payment is required a month prior to travel or as the terms and conditions of the service provider/s dictate.
  • When full payment has been made we will send your e-tickets & travel vouchers to you. If you prefer they can collected from our offices in North Riding Estates.
Health   
  • Visitors flying directly into Victoria Falls Zimbabwe do not require a Yellow Fever innoculation.
  • Victoria Falls is a malaria area contact your doctor or travel cinic for suitable medication prior to travel.
  • We recommend that all travellers take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance. Speak to your Maplanga consultant if you would like further information on the Oojah Travel insurance we offer.
Passports and visas
  • You must have a current passport that is valid for 6 months after travel.
  • There must be at least two empty pages in your passport
  • South African passports require not visas to enter Zimbabwe.
  • Many nationalities including US, British, Australian and Canadian can purchase their visas on arrival or online. Please have cash for this. Passports requiring a pre bought visa include Greece, Colombia, India. A Univisa is available for travellers who wish to include Zambia in their itineraries.
Money, currency and credit cards  
  • Zimbabwe currently has no currency of its own. All major currencies are accepted for payment but the currency of choice is the USD as all prices are denoted in USD.
  • All major credit cards are accepted at the big hotels in Victoria Falls including The Victoria Falls Hotel.
  • We recommend that you take along some small denominations of USD currency to pay for small incidentals, park fees and curio purchases as the local vendors do not have credit card facilities.

Weather
Victoria Falls is a summer rainfall area. The weather is mild in the day and cool at night in winter (May, June July) and warm to hot for all other months with October traditionally being the hottest month of the year when temperatures rise to the late 30's (Celsius)

Clothing
Victoria Falls is a casual tourist town so shorts and T shirts are perfectly acceptable attire everywhere. The only exception is the Livingstone Room at The Victoria Falls Hotel while no longer as formal as days gone by, has a dress code of smart casual.
